VHS KOLEKCIJA HONG KONG HEROIC BLOODSHED

Honkonška produkcija akcionih filmova krajem osamdesetih i kroz devedesete godine prošlog stoljeća bila je najvitalnija i najavangardnija filmska industrija u cijelom svijetu. Bez manirističke škole što ju je filmski kritičar i teoretičar Rick Baker u magazinu Eastern Heroes nazvao “heroic bloodshed” (junačka krvoprolića), ponajprije se referirajući na filmove režisera Johna Wooa i Ringa Lama kao na “akcione filmove s mnogo pucnjave i gangstera koji su zamijenili kung fu”, suvremena svjetska (a to zapravo znači američka) produkcija bila bi praktički nezamisliva, od ranih filmova Quentina Tarantina pa sve do omamljujuće iscrpljujućeg serijala o Johnu Wicku.
Većina će se filmskih povjesničara složiti kako se u samim začetcima ovog filmskog akcionog manirizma nalazi “A Better Tomorrow” Johna Wooa iz 1986. godine koji kao da je porušio sve brane mladih i nadobudnih honkonških filmaša i otvorio im vrata u svijet hiperkinetičnog kinematskog nasilja. Kao što su filmovi istočnjačkih genijalaca potaknuli američke kolege na nove i drugačije filmske pothvate tako su se i honkonški redatelji ugledali na svoje prethodnike sa zapada, u ikonografskom i produkcijskom pogledu ponajviše na Francuske visoko stilizirane krimiće Jean-Pierre Melvillea, a u kinematografskom (režija akcionih scena i rad s kamerom) na Sama Peckinpaha.
Ova kolekcija VHS traka namijenjena znalcima koliko i onima što se tek upoznaju s ovom izuzetnom filmskom vrstom predstavlja reprezentativnu selekciju filmova “heroic bolodshed” manira prikupljana je u devedesetim godinama prošlog stoljeća, u vrijeme kada se zapad – s oduševljenjem – počeo pobliže upoznavati s novim istočnjačkim akcionim filmovima te u njima pronalaziti vrijednosti koje su nedostajale učmaloj zapadnjačkoj filmskoj industriji. Neki od filmova ne mogu se u cijelosti podvesti pod zajednički nazivnik akcionih filmova, ali snimani su u istom razdoblju te se estetski i stilistički uklapaju pa predstavljaju sastavni dio kolekcije koja, među ostalim, progovara o vremenu i mjestu na kojemu su nastali brojni intrigantni filmski naslovi.
Sve su vrpce uvezene iz Velike Britanije, savršeno su očuvane i brižljivo čuvane prethodnih dvadesetak godina.
Cijena individualnih naslova je 12 € po kazeti, a za više od tri naslova odobravam popust.
Za cijelu kolekciju cijena je 180 € i plaćena poštarina. Ponuda vrijedi dok se kolekcija ne razbije.

Several years after his arrest, Sung Tse-ho is offered early parole by the police in exchange for spying on his former boss and mentor, Lung Sei, who is suspected of heading a counterfeiting operation. Inspector Wu, the leader of the task force, wants to mark his retirement with the capture of a high profile criminal like Lung.

A Better Tomorrow III: Love & Death in Saigon (Chinese: 英雄本色3-夕陽之歌) is a 1989 Hong Kong action drama film co-produced and directed by Tsui Hark. It is a loosely based prequel to John Woo's A Better Tomorrow and A Better Tomorrow II. The film was directed by Tsui Hark, the producer behind the first two films in the series. John Woo wrote a screenplay for a third installment, but he never got to direct it due to having had artistic differences with Tsui during the filming of the second film. Instead, the original screenplay later became Bullet in the Head. The film stars Chow Yun-fat, who reprises his role of Mark Gor from the first film, Tony Leung Ka-fai and Anita Mui. Set during the Vietnam War, it sets up the story of how Mark became the character he was in the original film. The second part of the title Love & Death in Saigon (夕陽之歌 or Song of the Setting Sun in Chinese) is also the title song for this movie, sung by Anita Mui, who was also the leading lady in this third installment. The two films have many parallels, most notably, both being set in the Vietnam War.

Bullet in the Head (traditional Chinese: 喋血街頭; simplified Chinese: 喋血街头) is a 1990 Hong Kong action film written, produced, edited and directed by John Woo, and starring Tony Leung, Jacky Cheung, Waise Lee and Simon Yam. The film incorporates elements of the action, war, drama, and crime film genres. n 1967, Hong Kong, Ben, Paul, and Frank are childhood friends and members of a gang. They regularly brawl with members of other gangs. Ben becomes engaged to his girlfriend Jane and Frank takes out a loan to pay for the reception. He is attacked by the leader of another gang, Ringo, and they fight over the money. After the wedding Ben and Frank attack Ringo in retaliation and Frank gets carried away and kills him. They meet with Paul and decide to flee Hong Kong to escape the police. They decide to go to Vietnam, as they have heard that there is money to be made as smugglers due to the war.

Chungking Express is a 1994 Hong Kong romantic crime comedy-drama film written and directed by Wong Kar-wai. The film consists of two stories told in sequence, each about a lovesick Hong Kong policeman mulling over his relationship with a woman. The first story stars Takeshi Kaneshiro as a cop obsessed by his breakup with a woman named May, and his encounter with a mysterious drug smuggler (Brigitte Lin). The second stars Tony Leung as a police officer roused from his gloom over the loss of his flight attendant girlfriend (Valerie Chow) by the attentions of a quirky snack bar worker (Faye Wong). "Chungking" in the title refers to Chungking Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, where Wong grew up in the 1960s. "Express" refers to the food stand Midnight Express, located in Lan Kwai Fong, an area in Central, Hong Kong.

City on Fire (traditional Chinese: 龍虎風雲; simplified Chinese: 龙虎风云; Jyutping: lung4 fu2 fung1 wan4) is a 1987 Hong Kong action film directed by Ringo Lam, who also produced with Karl Maka. The film stars Chow Yun-fat, Danny Lee, and Sun Yueh. Following A Better Tomorrow (1986), it helped establish Chow's popularity as an action star in Asia and to a lesser degree, North America. An undercover cop, Chan Kam-wah, who is investigating a group of jewellery thieves, blows his cover and is stabbed to death by three attackers in a street market. His superior, Inspector Lau, orders Ko Chow, another undercover policeman, to resume the investigations. Ko Chow accepts reluctantly because during his previous undercover mission he had to arrest someone who had trusted him as a friend.

At the same time that Hui reaches out to his father, the Hong Kong CID conclude their years'-long effort to get the goods on Tung and his associates. Tung expects the younger gangsters to live by the code he loves, but at his trial, he has a surprise coming to him. It may be up to Han to restore the balance.

Days of Being Wild is a 1990 Hong Kong drama film written and directed by Wong Kar-Wai. Yuddy, a smooth-talking playboy seduces Li-zhen but is uninterested in pursuing a serious relationship with her. Li-zhen, who wants to marry him, is heartbroken and decides to leave. Yuddy moves on to a new relationship with vivacious cabaret dancer Mimi. His friend Zeb is also attracted to her but she doesn't reciprocate his feelings.

Hard Boiled (Chinese: 辣手神探) is a 1992 Hong Kong action thriller film directed by John Woo from a screenplay by Gordon Chan and Barry Wong. The film stars Chow Yun-fat as Inspector "Tequila" Yuen, Tony Leung Chiu-wai as Alan, an undercover cop, and Anthony Wong as Johnny Wong, a leader of the criminal triads. In a teahouse in Hong Kong, Royal Hong Kong Police inspectors "Tequila" Yuen and Benny Mak attempt to arrest a group of gun smugglers while they are making a deal. After an ambush from a rival gang, a fierce gun battle breaks out; the gangsters are defeated but several police officers are badly wounded and Benny is killed. As revenge, Tequila executes the gangster who killed Benny rather than arrest him; he is later taken aside and ordered off the case by an infuriated Chief Superintendent Pang, who reveals to Tequila that the gangster he executed was in actuality, an undercover cop.

Island of Fire (Chinese: 火燒島) is a 1990 Taiwanese-Hong Kong action film directed by Kevin Chu, and starring Jackie Chan, Andy Lau, Sammo Hung, Tony Leung Ka-fai and Tou Chung-hua. Wang Wei (Tony Leung Ka-fai), a police officer, witnesses the murder of his father-in-law, a police commissioner, at the hands of an assassin. When the assassin attempts to escape, he is killed by a car bomb. Wei and his partner later identify the assassin but discover that he was a felon who was apparently executed in prison several months ago. Wei decides to go undercover in the prison by assaulting a group of gang members at a bar. While inside, he is immediately suspected of being a cop and is beaten in a prison-orchestrated fight, leaving him bloodied and bruised.

Once a Thief (Chinese: 縱橫四海; Literal Title: Criss-Cross Over Four Seas) is a 1991 Hong Kong heist comedy film directed by John Woo, who also wrote the screenplay with Janet Chun and Clifton Ko. The film stars Chow Yun-fat, Leslie Cheung, Cherie Chung, Kenneth Tsang and Paul Chu. The story is about three orphans and their two father figures. They are taken in by both a wealthy crime boss which leads to their close friendship, and a kind police officer. Nevertheless, the trio grows up learning high-tech methods of theft and specialise in stealing treasured paintings. After a heist in France goes awry, Red Bean Pudding is thought to be dead and James takes his place as Red Bean's lover. However, Pudding returns in a wheelchair, and the group begins planning their next heist for themselves, fall out of favour with Chow, and various complications and gun battles ensue.

Shanghai Triad

Shanghai Triad is a 1995 Chinese crime-drama film, directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Gong Li. The script is written by Bi Feiyu based on Li Xiao's 1994 novel Rules of a Clan (门规). The film is set in the criminal underworld of 1930s Shanghai, Republic of China and spans seven days. Shanghai Triad's Chinese title reads "Row, row, row to Grandma Bridge", refers to a well known traditional Chinese lullaby. Tang Shuisheng (Wang Xiaoxiao) has arrived in Shanghai to work for a Triad Boss (played by Li Baotian), also named Tang. He is taken to a warehouse where two rival groups of Triads carry out an opium deal that goes wrong, leaving one of the rival members dead. Shuisheng is then taken by his uncle to Tang's palatial home, where he is assigned to serve Xiao Jinbao (Gong Li), a cabaret singer and mistress of the Boss. It is soon learned that Jinbao is also carrying on an affair with the Boss's number two man, Song (Sun Chun).
