The GR-77B is the bass version of the classic Roland GR-700 guitar synthesizer. While the GR-77B is nearly identical to the GR-700 in form, the internal synth engine is based on the JX-8P, while the GR-700 is based on the JX-3P. She’s a stunning example in its White finish that has a mellow yellow patina. It’s pretty much unplayed from new. Its being sold w/out its GR-77B Synth Engine module. These have a huge file of sounds & effects when used w/its counterpart Synth unit. Its 8 lbs. 12 oz. It’s been hanging on my wall in my home on display, its near mint, it still sports its original plastic control knob placement sheet around the knobs & has a nice owners manual all in its minty matching hard case.
While specifically deisgned for the GR-77B bass synthesizer, the G-77 also works with the Roland GM-70 pitch-to-MIDI converter. With some modification, the G-77 can also be used successfully with the GR-33B bass synthesizer. Guitar players struggle with the slower response time of the low strings on their guitar synthesizers, so the concept of a bass guitar synthesizer with even slower speeds of response was met with some skepticism, and rightfully so. While a few players have adapted the G-77 as a bass guitar, the GR-77B is the least heard of all the vintage Roland guitar synthesizer products.
The GM-70 was the first Roland
guitar converter that did not have any sounds of its own. Instead, it is
designed to function as a guitar to MIDI converter that can efficiently
transmit MIDI data to other MIDI devices. The GM-70 can also be used to control
the slew of rack mounted MIDI guitar effects processors that have saturated the
market in the last five years. The GM-70 works with the GK-1 which was the
first hex pickup that could be mounted directly on a standard guitar. It also
works well with any G series guitar.
